Dear all,
Jokes have disappeared from ice lolly sticks and no longer can you reach inside your cereal box to pull out a toy. Nutmeg can do nothing about those travesties, but there is one timeless and simple joy that we can continue: the tournament special magazine issue.
We were raised on magazine covers marked ‘souvenir’ with stickers Sellotaped to the front (and the odd hot meal). As such, when Scotland qualified for the World Cup it felt like a wonderful obligation to produce our own version.
Alas, Sellotape might just ruin our handsome cover so to hit those maximum highs we’re sticking to the usual Nutmeg blend of quality writing, fine design and ace photography. Our contributors have concocted more than 30 interesting, unique features. Including:
⚽ Scotland v Denmark: an oral history.
⚽ Stephen McGowan meets Joe Jordan.
⚽ Daniel Gray opens Craig Brown’s diaries.
⚽ Jonathan Northcroft on covering seven World Cups.
⚽ Jonathan Wilson on Morocco’s AFCON madness.
⚽ Adam Clery’s analysis of Scotland v Brazil ‘74.
The Nutmeg World Cup special will bring you known nostalgic tales from new angles, unique insight on modern times and absolutely no references to Archie Gemmill’s goal against the Netherlands in 1978. Probably.
As this special will be issue number 39 of the regular magazine, print subscribers need do nothing. It’ll be coming their way automatically in a bit later than usual around 27 March. Get in.
However, now is the first chance for the rest of you to reserve yours. If you’ve never tried our print offering before, then what a superb issue to start with. Pre-order Issue 39 to guarantee a copy.
It’ll be the perfect escape from the everyday before the tournament gives us many more. Nutmeg: guaranteed to give that cereal toy feeling.
Very best,
Daniel Gray
Editor, Nutmeg magazine.
